The centre was started in 1937 in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) and shifted to its present premises in 1947. It was made a branch of Ramakrishna Math in December 2003.
Activities :
- A library with 7785 books and 15 periodicals.
- A charitable dispensary with homoeopathic and ayurvedic sections, which treated 1289 cases during the year.
- A hostel with 16 students.
- Illiteracy eradication programme and moral education to prisoners in the district reformatory.
- Welfare work by way of distribution of textbooks, and other aids to poor students, free distribution of milk, etc.
- Flood relief, cyclone relief and winter relief work.
- Celebration of the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother, Swami Vivekananda and other spiritual personalities, as also festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, etc.
- Regular classes and lectures in and outside the ashrama premises.
Activities of Mekhliganj sub-centre :
- A primary school with 102 students.
- A hostel with 4 inmates.
