This ashrama was started elsewhere in 1925 and shifted to its present site in 1931.
Activities :
- Publication of Kannada books. 16 new books and 47 reprints were brought out this year.
- Publication of a monthly magazine in Kannada, titled Vivek Prabha (6th year).
- A library with 17,578 books.
- Jnanavahini project, which organised discourses, personality development programmes, educational and religious exhibitions, etc in the interior villages of Karnataka with the help of audio-visual aids.
- Rural and tribal welfare work in the tribal belt of Mysore district, concentrating mainly on agriculture, on improving the irrigation system, and on providing other inputs.
- Free coaching classes for academically and economically weaker students (180 students this year).
- Regular worship and bhajans, and fortnightly Ramnam Sankirtan.
- Religious classes and occasional lectures in and outside the city.
- Celebration of the birth anniversaries of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother, Swami Vivekananda and other spiritual luminaries.
On an extensive plot of land a little away from the ashrama stands Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, a residential higher secondary school. It has a library with 16,908 books. This year there were 394 students. Along with academic studies, various extra-curricular activities were conducted during the year.
The Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education, housed in an impressive and commodious building in the Vidyashala campus, conducts a one-year BEd course with moral and spiritual education as one of the compulsory subjects. Its library has 27,537 books. A special feature of the Institute is its beautiful temple with a tall gopuram. There were 100 students this year. Short-term courses and retreats were conducted for college students and teachers as well as for the public.
