The centre was started in 1997 at the Bhojeshwar Bungalow premises, which was sanctified by Swami Vivekananda's four-month-long stay in 1891-92.
Activities :
- A charitable dispensary (allopathic, ayurvedic, and homoeopathic): 14,070 cases were treated during the year.
- Twelve free medical camps (2285 patients were treated) and a naturopathy camp (80 patients were treated) during the year.
- 8 free eye-camps, in which 1246 persons were treated and 171 were operated upon this year.
- A library and a free reading room, with 14,112 books and 42 periodicals.
- A permanent exhibition on Swami Vivekananda.
- Annual competitions, seminars and various cultural programmes.
- Welfare work by way of providing pecuniary help to the needy.
- Religious activities : Regular prayers, religious discourses, retreats and celebration of the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother, and Swami Vivekananda, as also Christmas Eve.
