The ashrama was started in 1927 and made a branch centre in 1929.
Activities :
- A higher secondary school with 1787 boys.
- An LP school with 584 children.
- Sanskrit coaching classes for boys.
- A Gurukula with 137 boys (Harijans 16 and orphans 26).
- A child welfare centre with 25 Harijan children.
- A publication department including a press which brought out 10 new books and 14 reprints in Malayalam.
- Publication of Prabuddha Keralam, a Malayalam monthly (90th year).
- An 18-bed hospital which treated 564 patients.
- A charitable allopathic dispensary, which treated 11,971 cases this year (new 6971).
- Welfare work such as feeding the poor, as also pecuniary help to poor students. Rs. 7,15,704 was spent for the purpose this year.
- Daily worship and bhajans, as also regular religious classes for the public in and outside the ashrama.
- Celebration of the birth anniversaries of spiritual luminaries, besides popular festivals.
- Monthly and annual spiritual retreats for the devotees.
- Activities at Punkunnam (Vivekananda Vijnana Bhavanam, Punkunnam, PIN 680 002)
- A library and a reading room with 5500 books, and 11 periodicals and dailies
- Free Sanskrit classes and weekly religious classes.
